Loss and Resilience

When we lose something or someone, there is a period of reflection.  What went wrong?  Did I miss something?  Was there something I could have done differently?

Loss in any form aches.

This past week, I was told my book was about resilience.

Resilience: the capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties: toughness

My friend died today

Does it ever get easier? The feeling when your heart drops and disbelief that someone is gone forever.

When the word travels and every passing year the names on the list grow.

I could write a story of everyone I loved on the list. The ones whose eyes lit up the sky. The ones whose smile could ease the pain.  The ones who spoke so eloquently.

As I go through the names, I realize I don’t want it to be easier. I want to see the world as they did, with wonder and awe.

That’s what made me love them and their absence is a reminder to continue to see the world as they once did.

Having a strong support system and sense of purpose are key characteristics of being

resilient.

Whatever challenges or losses come my way, I know I have what it takes to endure.

Thank you for being a part of The Mermaid League and this community.
